Women's Basketball Upended At Lewis & Clark

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Whitman College women's basketball team saw its nine-season unbeaten run against Lewis & Clark come to an end Friday night, falling 68-59 to the River Otters in Northwest Conference action at Pamplin Sports Center.

Briana Andrade and Emma Lena Baker each scored 12 points to lead the Blues, who dropped to 8-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play. Morgan Montgomery added 10 points and six rebounds, while Holly Morgan finished with eight points and four boards.

Whitman trailed 22-16 after the first quarter but responded with a strong second period, outscoring the River Otters 20-14 to send the teams into halftime tied 36-36. The Blues continued to battle through a tight third quarter, entering the final frame down just 48-46.

Early in the fourth, Whitman briefly moved in front before Lewis & Clark answered with a decisive run to reclaim the lead for good. The hosts outscored the Blues 20-13 in the final quarter and used timely three-point shooting and free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.

Whitman shot 39.3 percent from the field and held a 32-22 advantage in points in the paint but was limited to 3-of-15 from beyond the arc and 8-of-14 at the free throw line. Lewis & Clark converted 20-of-26 from the stripe to help offset the Blues' interior edge.

The Blues continue Northwest Conference play tomorrow at George Fox. Tipoff with the Bruins is set for 3:00 p.m.
