Swimming Splits On The Road Against Linfield

1/17/2026 10:34:00 PM

McMINNVILLE, Ore. - The Whitman College swimming teams split their Northwest Conference dual at Linfield on Saturday morning, as the men edged the Wildcats 107-98 while the women fell 108-94. The men's team used strong depth in the middle and late events to secure a 107-98 victory, capped by a win in the 400 freestyle relay. The women's team grabbed several individual and relay wins but ultimately came up short, 108-94, as Linfield's depth in freestyle and breaststroke events proved decisive.

"We have been on the road for the last ten days, spending about a week training hard in Coronado and finishing up with these two dual meets against Willamette and Linfield," said head coach Jenn Blomme. "We arrived to these meets super fatigued and I could not have been more impressed with how the team showed up: Driven, positive, confident. They fought hard for every point."

Whitman's men clinched the meet with a first-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as the quartet of Brodie Salzbrener, Adrian Dulong, Ian McClelland and Elliot Yung touched in 3:15.48, just ahead of Linfield's A squad.

Salzbrener also won the 100-yard freestyle in 48.76, with Yung taking third, giving Whitman crucial late-meet points.

Calvin Tappert led a strong distance showing by winning the 500 free in 5:06.60, with teammates Flynn Davis-Lawrence and Jay Boivin finishing third and fourth to widen the margin.

Finn Stukerjurgen added a key win in the 200 IM (2:03.48) and also took second in the 200 back, helping Whitman stay in front despite several Linfield victories in the sprints.

The women's squad opened with a statement win in the 400-yard medley relay, as Avery Riley, Elly Rectenwald, Teague Monahan and Anneliese Hanson combined for a 4:19.13 time to top Linfield by more than 28 seconds.

Riley later took second in both the 200 free (2:00.57) and 500 free (5:30.55), accounting for a large share of Whitman's distance points.

Monahan delivered one of Whitman's biggest individual swims with a win in the 200 butterfly (2:24.02), while Siena Hayes followed in second to complete a 1–2 sweep in the event.

Rectenwald picked up a runner-up finish in the 200 breast (2:41.94) and shared a win in the 200 back, tying teammate Ella Tyroler for first in 2:29.41 as Whitman swept the top spot in that race.

The Blues will host their final home meets next weekend when they host Puget Sound on Friday and Pacific Lutheran on Saturday for the Senior Day.
