Bonner, Rosell Roll Into ITA Cup Quarterfinals; Jensen Falls in Opener

ROME, Ga. – Whitman College's Emerson Bonner and Renata Rosell needed little time to settle in on the national stage. They beat Grace Qian and Mona Fara 6-0, 6-1 of Hamilton College on Thursday to reach the quarterfinals of the women's open doubles draw at the ITA Cup at the Rome Tennis Center.

On the men's side, Niklas Jensen played in the men's open singles draw and lost his opening-round match to Aiden Borosko of Denison University, 7-5, 6-3.

The Blues duo lost just one game in the match. They broke serve early and often and controlled the points from the baseline and at the net, turning their first appearance in Rome into a quick win.

Bonner and Rosell earned their spot in the national field by winning the ITA Northwest Regional doubles title last month. They will face a doubles team from Bowdoin College in the quarterfinals on Friday.

In Jensen's match, he stayed even with Borosko through most of the first set before the Denison player pulled away late to win it 7-5. Borosko then gained the edge in the second set and closed out the match 6-3.
