Men's Tennis Turns Back Pacific

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Whitman College men's tennis team remained undefeated in Northwest Conference play with a 5-2 road win at Pacific University on Sunday morning, riding a strong doubles performance and a clinching victory from first-year Hanri Luo at No. 6 singles.

The Blues grabbed early momentum by taking two of three doubles courts to secure the doubles point. Niklas Jensen and Alexander Stage leveled the round with a 6-3 win at No. 2, then Guillermo Rodriguez and Luo rolled to a 6-2 victory at No. 3 to lock up the point after Pacific had claimed No. 1 doubles.

Whitman carried that edge into singles behind straight-set wins from the top of the lineup. Stage was first off at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Joshua Dela Cruz, and Jensen followed with a 7-6, 6-2 win at No. 2 against Jonathan Nguyen to push the Blues' lead to 3-1.

Rodriguez pulled Whitman within a point of the team win with a three-set battle at No. 4, rallying for a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory over Dawson Hose. Luo then delivered the clincher, dominating at No. 6 in a 6-0, 6-4 decision against Steele Toguchi to seal the match at 5-2 for the Blues.

The Blues are at home for the first time this season when they host conference matches against George Fox and Lewis & Clark next weekend.
