HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - In the first of two competitions between the two schools, the #27 Whitman College men's golf team topped #29 Southern Virginia University 7-2 in match play on Wednesday at the El Campeon Golf Course.

The Blues were sharp throughout the lineup, starting with a convincing 4&3 win from Mason Remington over Nikko Taggart in the No. 1 spot. Grady Brown delivered the most lopsided result of the day with a 7&5 victory against Will Aglew, while Eshan Singh and Nick Johnson halved their match. Ben Sweet also earned a half point for Whitman with his tie against Caden Bertnagole.

In the middle of the order, Caelan Wobbrock claimed a tight 1-up win over Kaden Ford, and John Malsam battled before falling 3&1 to Charles Price for Southern Virginia's first point. Toby Moore responded with a dominant 6&5 win over Andrew Huff, giving Whitman another full point.

The Blues closed out the team win in the final pairings as Nathan Memali edged Sam Buckwalter 1 up, and Dillon Schrock capped the day with a 1-up victory over Sam Young.

The two teams meet again tomorrow but with different pairings and a medal match format.
