Baseball Drops Both Games Of A Doubleheader At Lewis & Clark

PORTLAND - The Whitman College baseball team dropped both ends of a Northwest Conference doubleheader at Lewis & Clark on Saturday, falling 7–6 in the opener and 9–3 in game two.

Game 1: Lewis & Clark 7, Whitman 6
Whitman nearly erased a six‑run deficit in the opener, scoring five times over the final three innings but coming up one run short in a 7–6 loss. Landon Runyan supplied most of the damage at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a triple and a grand slam, finishing with four RBI and two of Whitman's five hits. Wyatt Miyamoto added a double and scored twice, while Jonah Chang drove in a run with a sacrifice fly as Whitman plated single runs in the fifth and sixth before the four‑run seventh.

On the mound, Jack Finn took the loss after allowing three runs on three hits over two and one-third innings with two strikeouts and five walks, while relievers Hawthorne Moody and Dolan Wynne combined for four and one-third innings and three strikeouts out of the bullpen.

Lewis & Clark managed seven runs on seven hits, powered by home runs from Gavin Mangano and Bret Potter; Potter finished 2 for 4 with four RBI, and Mangano added two RBI and two runs scored.

Starter Sam Burchi struck out six over six and two-thirds innings for the win, and Matt Stanislavsky fanned four in two and one-third innings of relief to close it out.

Game 2: Lewis & Clark 9, Whitman 3
In game two, Whitman out‑hit its game one total by more than double, collecting 12 hits, but left 13 runners on base in a 9–3 setback. Catcher Nate Petz led the way by going 3 for 4 with a double and a run scored, while Christopher Nobrega (2 for 4) added an RBI and a run, and both Tristan Buehring and Jonah Chang chipped in two hits apiece. Buehring drove in a run with a late‑inning double, and Luke Malzewski added an RBI groundout as the Blues scored once in the sixth and twice in the eighth.

Lewis & Clark's lineup again proved deep, finishing with 15 hits and nine RBI, led by Dylan Lee's 2‑for‑5, four‑RBI performance that included a three‑run homer in the sixth. Will Michelman went 3 for 4 with two runs and an RBI, and Gavin Mangano added three hits and an RBI from the top of the order.

Starter Oliver Brown took the loss for Whitman after allowing five earned runs on 10 hits over five innings with three strikeouts, while Owen Eisen limited Whitman to one run over five and one-third innings with four strikeouts before handing the ball to Nate Kerr for a three and two-thirds‑inning save.

The Blues and River Otters close out their three game set on Sunday with a single game set for 12:00 p.m.
