Men's Tennis Too Much For Pacific

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Whitman College men's tennis team returned to Northwest Conference play in dominant fashion Sunday, rolling past Pacific University 7-0 at the Whitman Tennis Courts to remain unbeaten in league action.

Whitman, now 11-5 overall and 10-0 in NWC play, swept all three doubles courts before closing out the Boxers with six straight-set singles victories. The loss dropped Pacific to 5-9 overall and 5-5 in conference.

The Blues set the tone in doubles, clinching the opening point behind a 6-3 win from Charles Rush and Artem Manov at No. 2, followed by a 6-4 victory from Niklas Jensen and Alexander Stage at the top spot. Hanri Luo and Guillermo Rodriguez completed the sweep with a 6-4 result on court three.

Whitman carried that momentum into singles, where Jensen delivered a quick 6-1, 6-0 win over Alexander Kinoshita at No. 2 to start the run. Rush followed with a matching 6-1, 6-0 score line against Lucas Fuhrmann on court five, and Luo secured the victory with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Steele Toguchi at No. 6.

Rodriguez added a 6-2, 6-3 win over Ryley Chang at No. 4, and Manov posted a steady 6-4, 6-4 decision against Dawson Hose on court three. Stage closed the day with a 6-2, 7-5 triumph at the top of the lineup over Joshua Dela Cruz, finishing off the singles sweep.

The Blues return to play next week for their final regular season NWC road contests as they continue their push toward the top seed in the conference tournament.
