Women's Golf Closes Two-Day UC Santa Cruz Invite

PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. – The Whitman College women's golf team wrapped up play at the UC Santa Cruz Invite on Saturday afternoon, finishing 11th in the two-day event at Pacific Grove Golf Links.

Camila Yoo led the Blues with a two-round total of 14-over par, carding a four-over opening round before battling tougher conditions for a 10-over final round to place in a tie for 26th on the individual leaderboard. Senior Samantha Torres closed out the tournament at 24-over, highlighted by a steady first round six-over score before an 18-over finale on Day Two.

Rounding out Whitman's scoring contingent were teammates Lauren Ushijima and Beatrice Archer, who each finished at 26-over to sit in a tie for 58th overall. Ushijima posted rounds of 16-over and 10-over, while Archer turned in 12-over and 14-over cards as the Blues navigated a deep field featuring multiple nationally ranked programs.

The UC Santa Cruz Invite field was paced by Redlands' Savannah Christenson, who captured medalist honors at 2-over par following rounds of even-par and 2-over. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Pomona-Pitzer and George Fox all placed multiple golfers inside the top 20, underscoring the strength of competition Whitman faced over the 36-hole tournament.

Whitman now turns its attention to both the NWC Spring Classic and NWC Championship held over the next few weekends. Both tournaments will be vital determining factors in this year's Northwest Conference champion.
