Torres leads women's golf team to win over rival Whitworth

RICHLAND, Wash. - Finishing birdie birdie, Samantha Torres carded her first collegiate sub-par round Saturday at Columbia Point golf course in Richland to lead the Blues to a dual match victory over rival Whitworth University.

Torres was joined by teammates Beatrice Archer, Camila Yoo and Lauren Ushijima with rounds in the 70's as they now prepare for the season ending NWC Championship next weekend at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club.

Archer posted a one-under score of 34 on the back nine to shoot 76. Ushijima's even par back nine of 35 propelled her to her personal best 78 and Camila Yoo joined her on the leaderboard, shooting 78 with nines of 40-38. The 303 total for the foursome was the low score of the spring and second lowest for the year.

Whitman's outstanding round was needed to hold off the Pirates, as their four counting scores were a total of 2 over par on the back nine. Whitworth was led by Erin Pierce's 75, followed closely by Stella Fergin's 76, and Ashley Maki's 78. Whitworth's 312 total came up nine shots short of the Blues total.

Both teams conclude their season next weekend in Oregon at the league Championship.
