Women's Volleyball Comes Up Short To Chapman At the.Whittier Invite

WHITTIER, Calif. — The Whitman College women's volleyball team rallied for a third-set victory but could not complete the comeback, falling to Chapman University 3-1 on Friday at Graham Athletic Center. Set scores were 25-21, 25-14, 20-25, 25-20.

Addie Belt led the Blues offensively with a match-high 16 kills, committing just three errors on 27 attempts for a .481 hitting percentage. She added seven digs and a solo block. Kendall Herman contributed seven kills on .333 hitting, while Sammy Holmer added seven kills and a team-high nine digs.


Whitman's offense improved as the match continued. After hitting .074 in the first set and .200 in the second, the Blues hit .229 in their third-set win and .345 in the fourth. The Blues finished the match with 44 kills and a .215 attack percentage.


The third set swung Whitman's way after Chapman built an early 14-11 lead. The Blues answered with a 6-1 run, highlighted by consecutive service aces from Lexie Uchima, to take a 17-15 advantage. The set remained tight late, but kills from Rowyn Lee, Herman and Bella Vickers gave Whitman the final three points in its 25-22 win.


In the fourth, Chapman raced to a 5-0 lead before Whitman settled in and cut the deficit to 10-7. The Blues later pulled within 14-12 following consecutive Herman kills, but the Panthers answered and maintained separation down the stretch.


Haylee Pruse directed Whitman's attack with 31 assists, while Lauren Fogliani posted six digs. Vickers recorded five kills and a block assist, and Lee added three kills and a solo block.


Chapman finished with a slight edge in hitting, .241 to .215, and totaled nine service aces and seven team blocks. Angelina Solis led the Panthers with 14 kills on .480 hitting, while Boyd Killion added 11 kills and Ava Bradbury recorded seven kills and five block assists.


Whitman fell to 1-3 overall with the loss, while Chapman improved to 2-2.
