Women's Volleyball Closes Whit Classic With Loss To Whitworth

WALLA WALLA, Wash. — The Whitman College women's volleyball team wrapped up the 2026 Whit Classic on Saturday afternoon, falling in straight sets to rival Whitworth in a non-conference Battle of the Whits matchup at the Sherwood Center. Sets scores were 25-14, 25-15, 25-12.

The Pirates established control early, opening the first set with a 10-0 run. Whitman responded with a 4-0 stretch and later cut the deficit to 11-5, but Whitworth maintained its advantage and closed the frame on a 4-1 run.

Whitman was more competitive in the second set, using three consecutive points to erase an early 4-1 deficit and pull even at 4-4. The Blues also stayed within four points at 8-12 before the Pirates used a 7-1 surge to create separation. Whitman closed to within 23-15 late in the set, but Whitworth scored the final two points to take a two-set lead.

The Pirates again seized momentum early in the third, turning a 1-1 tie into a 12-1 lead. Whitman continued to battle down the stretch, with Sammy Holmer recording three kills in the set and Nadia Shepherd adding three kills on three attempts, but Whitworth completed the sweep with a 25-12 decision.

Milla Hansen led the Blues offensively with six kills on 13 attempts and a .462 hitting percentage. Holmer added five kills, while Shepherd finished with four kills. Lauren Fogliani posted a match-high 15 digs, and Addie Belt, named to the Classic All-Tournament Team collected 12 digs to go with five kills and one service ace.

Whitworth hit .382 as a team, including a .516 attack percentage in the final set. Alyssa Baird paced the Pirates with 16 kills, while Lauren Kremer was especially efficient with eight kills on 10 attempts for an .800 hitting percentage.

Whitman finished the match with 25 kills and 37 digs. Whitworth held a 8-2 advantage in service aces and recorded three team blocks.
