Michael Lenahan was named assistant men's basketball coach in May 2019. He returns to the Blues for his second stint with the program
"Our program is blessed to have Michael back joining us," praised Bridgeland of Lenahan who coached with the Blues for the 2014-15 season. "Every program he has touched (Cal, Irvine, and our own) has recorded record breaking seasons during his tenure. Michael is as good a recruiter as I've seen in my 25 years of collegiate basketball. Further, Michael is well-versed in how we go about setting our young men up for success upon graduation from Whitman - he will hit the ground running."
Prior to returning to the Blues, Lenahan was the the director of basketball operations at UC Irvine from 2011-2014 then again from 2015-2019. In his position, he oversaw the team managers, video operations, assisted with travel and maintained the recruiting database, as well as worked with program supporter outreach. The Anteaters experienced great success during those years, including winning their first Big West Conference championship in more than a decade.
Lenahan's coaching career began in 2007 when he joined the Cal men's basketball team as the assistant video coordinator. During his time at Cal, the Golden Bears went to the NCAA tournament twice and captured their first PAC-10 title in 50 years.
Michael graduated with a degree in media studies from the University of California Berkeley in 2011, and earned his masters in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University in Irvine, Calif.
