Kayla Engelhard was added to the staff in the summer of 2017.
In the two seasons prior to her hiring Engelhard worked as an assistant at Concordia University Chicago, helping the team bounce back from a 10-15 season in 2015-16 to a 15-11 record and appearance in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference tournament in 2016-17.
Engelhard earned a Masters in sports leadership from Concordia.
A 2015 graduate of Calvin (Mich.) College with a Bachelor's degree in kinesiology, she played and started four years for a Knights squad that won three Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) championships and appeared in two NCAA Elite Eight games.
Her team entered the 2015 national quarterfinal with a perfect 30-0 record before falling to George Fox University -- in-conference opponent after her Whitman hiring.
A 2015 Great Lakes honorable mention all-region player and MIAA first-team honoree Engelhard averaged 23.5 minutes 13.1 points, 3.4 assists and 1.9 steals per game during her senior campaign. Her prowess at thievery led the team while her other statistics were second-best on the Knights' national-caliber squad.
A career total of 333 assists places Engelhard fifth all-time in the Calvin record books, and her 1,154 career points ranks 11th.
Engelhard also owns a National Strength & Conditioning Association certification as a strength and conditioning specialist and helped coordinate the year-round strength and conditioning program employed by the Concordia team.
