Brian Kitamura

Coach Kitamura, also the head baseball coach for the Blues, began as the recruiting coordinator for the women's lacrosse program in 2020. He led the lacrosse coaching staff through a time of transition during the 2020-21 year before Heidi Colford was hired to take over the program the following year.

A native of Mercer Island, Wash., Coach Kitamura is familiar with the highly competitive nature and rising strength of lacrosse play in the Pacific Northwest.  Just as he committed to Whitman out of high school to play collegiate baseball, several of his high school classmates committed to play collegiate lacrosse at other schools across the nation including the University of Notre Dame.

A Whitman alumnus, Kitamura ('10) is also the head baseball coach for the Blues.  Now entering his 6th season as the head coach and 11th season overall on the baseball coaching staff, he has helped lead the Whitman baseball program through one of its most successful eras in school history.

The 2019 baseball team earned a berth to the Northwest Conference tournament for the first time since the inception of the tournament and brought home the championship, winning its first Northwest Conference title in the sport since 1952.  With that victory, the Blues earned a berth to the NCAA tournament for the first time ever in program history.

Kitamura, who has spent his entire coaching career here at Whitman, is passionate about bringing the next class of women's lacrosse players to campus.  "I am eager to build on the great work that Kirkland and Arianna started in recruiting this next incoming class, which already has the foundation to be an incredibly talented group both on and off the field, and I'm excited to get to know our current players and help create the best student-athlete experience possible for them."

Kitamura received his Bachelor's in Psychology from Whitman in 2010 and earned his Professional Master's in Sports Administration from Ohio University in 2019.  He resides in Walla Walla with his wife, Kirsten ('12), their two children, Evelyn and Brooks, and their dog Wrigley.
