WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- The Whitman College women's volleyball team
had no answer for Deborah Bekowiews, a 6-foot-3 middle blocker who
slammed 28 kills while hitting .465 to power the Menlo College Oaks to a 3-0
victory (25-16, 25-15, 25-22) Saturday afternoon at the Whitworth
Invitational in Spokane, Wash.
Menlo, an NAIA team that finished
third last season in the California Pacific Conference, improved its
early record to 4-3 while dropping Whitman to 0-4. The Missionaries
play their final tournament game at 4 p.m. today against Whitworth.
Alex
Graves, a junior outside hitter, led the Whitman charge against Menlo,
combining 11 kills with 16 digs. Katie Miller, a first-year Missionary,
added nine kills while sophomore libero Kelsie Butts keyed the defense
with 17 digs. First-year setter Krystin Norman had 25 assists and eight
digs.
