WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Whitman College women's soccer team gave up a goal in each half and saw its winning streak snapped in a 2-0 loss to the University of Puget Sound in Northwest Conference action Saturday at the Whitman Athletics Fields.
The early portion of the first half saw the lionshare the possession go to the Loggers (7-4-2, 6-1-2 NWC) but Whitman (3-9-1, 3-6 NWC) kept play predictable and countered when it needed to. The Blues would have several serious counter attack opportunities, the best when
Kate Prudent received a driven ball on the left flank. She dribbled central to the top of the penalty area, striking a shot saved by Logger keeper Jamie Lange.
The Blues looked prime to at least go into halftime with a scoreless draw but a miscue in the back led to a Logger goal and a 1-0 lead.
Chelsea Day and Whitman goalie
Allie Seracuse miscommunicated on a back pass with the ball skidding past Seracuse toward an open goal. Genevieve Cheatham ran on and punch it into the back of the net.
The Loggers all but sealed the game with their goal in the 72
nd minute, this time with Cheatham as the facilitator. Cheatham beat Seracuse to a loose ball at the top of the penalty area and was able to find Gabbie Berg alone in front of the goal who finished the empty netter.
Lange posted three saves in earning the shutout with Seracuse making four saves in the losing effort.
The Blues return to action tomorrow against Pacific Lutheran. Kick off at the Whitman Athletics Fields is set for 12:00 p.m.
