WALLA WALLA, Wash.  – The Whitman College women's soccer team gave up a goal in each half en route to a 2-0 loss to Pacific Lutheran in Northwest Conference action Sunday at the Whitman Athletics Fields. The Blues drop to 3-10-1 overall and 3-7 in league play. The Lutes improve to 8-3-3 and 7-2-1 in the Northwest Conference.
The Lutes opened the scoring with a goal in the 13
th minute. Liz Griffith served a ball from the left flank which Leah Magee controlled and popped over Blues keeper
Bryanna Schreiber's head. PLU dominated much of the half, controlling possession resulting in eight shots and forcing three saves from Schreiber.
The Lutes put Whitman  very much behind the eight ball with a goal just five minutes into the second half. Griffin was again the facilitator, delivering a through ball on the floor behind the backline to an on running Jamie Sato. Schreiber came off her line but Sato slotted the shot into the back of the net for the two-goal lead.
Schreiber had a busy day in net and was called into action to the tune of four saves. Natalie Robinson posted one save in earning the shutout. As a team, PLU outshout Whitman 13-4.
The Blues have a short turnaround before hosting a midweek contest Wednesday, Oct. 17 against Whitworth at 5:00 p.m.
