Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Blues Upended At Puget Sound

TACOMA, Wash. - Codie Conching delivered 12 kills and 27 digs, Claire McCarthy added a match-high 29 more but it wasn't enough as the Whitman College women's volleyball team feel in four close sets at Puget Sound on Saturday night. Set scores were 25-22, 29-27, 26-28, 25-21.

Megan Henry and Kalli Dickey both added 11 kills for the Blues (8-14, 4-10 NWC) with Sadie Alloway posting a team-high 12 kills for UPS. The Loggers (12-10, 9-5 NWC) were also aided by Jordan Holman's six kills and team-best 24 digs.

Set one was close throughout until a late 6-1 UPS run turned a two-point deficit into a three point lead. Back-to-back kills from Conching and another from Henry shaved the lead to one but the Loggers pulled away for the 1-0 lead.

Sets two and three were the most thrilling of the match. The Blues held the lead for much of their set two loss going up three points at 17-14 when Dickey, Rebecca Hall and Brooke Randall all got in on a block. UPS closed the gap yet the Blues would end up having two set points but couldn't find a way to even the match.

Whitman was able to rally and push the match to a fourth set. The Blues were nipping on UPS's heels for much of the set and were finally able to take a late lead off kills from Sierra Myers and Hall. That sparked a run from UPS who regained a three-point lead late, but Whitman regained its composure in time to secure the win.

Set three would prove to be just a hiccup for the Loggers who finished off Whitman one set later.

The Blues return home for their final two matches, first against Whitworth on Halloween Night, Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 7:00 p.m.
