Box Score 2 FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Whitman College women's volleyball team closed out a successful weekend at the Oregon Trail Classic, topping Elmhurst and UC Santa Cruz on Saturday at the Stoller Center. The Blues took down Elmurst in four sets (25-23, 25-19, 20-25, 25-20) to open the day before posting a four-set win (25-23, 25-11, 22-25, 25-13) over the Banana Slugs.
Elyse Benavides and
Codie Conching were the catalysts in the Elmhurst win, both posting double doubles. Benavides drilled 12 kills while recording 13 digs with Conching delivering 12 kills of her own and adding 12 digs.
Claire McCarthy shared match-high honors in digs (14) with Elmhurst's Rachel Shuty and
Brooke Randall recorded a match-best eight blocks.
Baily Bower for Elmurst was the match's top hitter with 18 kills, hitting at a .317 clip.
Whitman's afternoon match saw the Blues stave off a furious opening set rally from UC Santa Cruz before eventually getting the best of the Slugs.
Kalli Dickey delivered one of her best performances of the early season with a team-high 10 kills and hitting at a .364 clip. Conching chipped in eight kills and 10 digs.
For the Slugs, Alexandria Everett drilled a match-high 12 kills with Shania Andrews and McCarthy sharing match-high honors each with 17 digs.
The Blues are back on the road next weekend traveling to California for the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational and another quartet of matches on Friday and Saturday.
