Cali Anderson and
Tate Cadang each recorded eight digs but it came in a loss as the Whitman College women's volleyball team fell in straight sets to Pacific, Friday night in Northwest Conference action at the Stoller Center. Set scores were 25-23, 25-14, 25-10.
The Blues (5-6, 1-2 NWC) poor hitting was evident all night as Whitman approached a season-low .070 attack percentage with the Boxers hitting at a .301 clip as a team. Whitman committed only 16 errors but couldn't find a way around or through the Pacific block.
Morgan Mendicino led the way for the Boxers (8-4, 2-1 NWC) with a match-high 12 kills while hitting at a .348 clip. Karlee Duncan and Haley Walz shared match-high honors in digs both with 10 on the night.
Despite the sweep, Whitman nearly pulled off a first set win. Pacific led early after Mendicino capped a 4-0 run with a kill to put her team up 9-4. The Blues rallied and tied the score with a run of their own highlighted by a pair of
Codie Conching kills. The teams traded points Jordan Zweifel's kill gave the Boxers a two-point lead at 18-16. The Blues never let the set slip away but ran out of points before dropping the set
Sets two and three were no contest as Pacific grabbed early leads in both en route to completing the sweep. The second set featured an early 10-1 Boxer run with a 12-1 burst doing the Blues in in set three.
Whitman plays its second of back-to-back league road contests, visiting George Fox on Saturday for a 5:00 p.m. first serve.
