WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Whitman College women's soccer team delivered its highest scoring output of the season and notched its first win in a 4-1 defeat of Pacific in Northwest Conference action, Saturday at the Whitman Athletic Fields.
With four different goalscorers, the Blues (1-6-1, 1-3 NWC) saw contributions all over the pitch including
Elly Wolfe four saves in net. Pacific keeper Kali Barber had a busy day between the pipes for the Boxers (1-6, 1-2 NWC) with 10 saves.
The Blues struck early when
Rylee Neville served a ball from the right flank to the foot of
Renee van Bergeijk at the top box. She settled it and drove her shot low to the near post past Barber to put the Blues up.
Whitman nearly added another but Barber came up big, making a point-blank save off a
Sofia Ellington volley in front of the net. The Blues would break through with their second when
Kate Prudent slipped a cross from the right byline which
Emily Rigsby ran on to and finished.
The lone Boxer goal came shortly before the first half ended when Emily Thompson's shot was mishandled by Wolfe, crossing the goal line before she could gain possession.
Whitman took care of business in the second half with
Camille Marshall's goal in the 66
th minute and Ellington capping the scoring with her team leading fourth goal of the season.
The Blues are next in action Saturday, Sept. 29 at Linfield. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
