Women's Tennis Serves Up 2019 With Win At LCSC

LEWISTON, Idaho - Lori Sheng won at third doubles and swept at No. 4 singles to pace the No. 27 Whitman College women's tennis team to a spring opening 7-2 win at Lewis-Clark State College on Monday afternoon at the LCSC Tennis Center.


The match was the second dual competition of the season for the Blues who improve to 2-0. The Warriors drop to 0-2 on the season.

The teams split the first two singles finishes when Sheng put Whitman up 4-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Jen Roux. Laura Rossielli earned a straight-set win over Mary Hill for LCSC's first point but the match clincher came at third singles when Anastasiya Redkina rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Laura Diaz.

The Blues set the stage for the win after a clean sweep in doubles play. Sheng and Kattie Pak took down LCSC's Alexandra Barry and Kayla Collier 8-5 to open the afternoon, with Hill and Andrea Gu completing the sweep with an 8-7 (7-5) win on the No. 1 court.

With the result in hand, the day closed with an exciting match on the No. 5 singles court. Audrey Grigore earned a sweep with a 9-7 tiebreak win in set two for a match result of 6-1, 7-6 (9-7).

The Blues return to action at the start of next month for their spring home opener, facing Division I Seattle University on Friday, Feb. 1 at 2:00 p.m.
