Box Score WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitman College women's tennis team capped an impressive weekend, topping UC Santa Cruz 8-1 on Saturday afternoon in the final match of the Whitman College Fall Invitational.

The win gave them a 3-0 record in the tournament and much to look forward to when the team returns to action this spring.

"This was a great match," said head coach John Hein. "The team really stepped up in doubles after Whitworth and then the fight and resilience this group has up and down the lineup in singles is so much fun. It will be great to build on this spring."

The Blues made no doubt of the result after sweeping doubles play. Angel Le and Anastasiya Redkina kicked things off with an 8-0 blanking of Kayla Manz and Ines Pelvang at two doubles. Andei Fukushige and Andrea Gu assured the Blues of the lead heading to singles with an 8-3 win on the No. 1 court.

Whitman lost just one match in singles, but with the result already decided. The toughest win came on the No. 4 court as Audrey Grigore rallied from a set down to clinch the win for the Blues. Set scores for Grigore were 0-6, 6-2, 10-5.

Le posted the most impressive singles win, beating Vivian Lee 6-0, 6-2 at the three for the first singles victory.
