Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Takes Down Walla Walla U.

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Makana Stone scored a game-high 17 points, Kaylie McCracken added 16 more to pace the No. 21 Whitman College women's basketball team to a dominant 78-50 win over NAIA crosstown foe Walla Walla University on Wednesday night.

All but three Whitman players saw double figures in minutes as the Blues improved to a perfect 3-0 on the season. Stone did her damage on 6-8 shooting and 5-5 from the foul line while grabbing four rebounds and posting two blocks. McCracken made her living at the line with impressive 10-12 line and Natalie Whitesel pulled down a game-high seven rebounds.

Carolina Montes scored 15 points and five rebounds and Jaliyah Casem added 11 points for the Wolves who were never able to find their shooting stroke. They shot 28% overall and 17% in three pointers.

The Blues used a pair of 5-0 runs in the first quarter, their highest scoring period of the game, to take a 23-15 lead through the first 10 minutes. Back-to-back three pointers from Mady Burdett and Shaira Young put Whitman up early and a string of made free throws over a 2:55 stretch increased the lead to nine points.

The second quarter saw the Blues widen the margin to 15 points by halftime. A Montes bucket made it a five-point game with 7:35 remaining, but Whitman responded with a 10-1 run highlighted by three pointers from Burdett and Caira Young. The Blues carried a 41-26 lead into the break.

Whitman all but put the game out of reach early in the third quarter. Layups from Stone and Lily Gustafson extended to a 20-point lead at 49-29 with 6:44 remaining. The lead hovered around the 20-point margin until McCracken's layup inside of a minute remaining made it a 54-32 score.

The Blues have a quick turnaround as they head to Southern California for a pair of games this weekend at Redlands (Nov. 23) and Whittier (Nov. 25).
