SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The Whitman College women's tennis team played its second Presidents Day weekend match, regrouping from a Sunday defeat to dominate UC Santa Cruz 7-2 on Monday at the San Francisco Tennis Club.

Mary Hill was dominant on the morning. She won easily at first doubles with partner Andrea Gu, 8-1, over the UCSC pair of Ashley Isaac and Isabelle Brown, then swept Brown 6-4, 6-2 at second singles.

Despite the impressive win, the match was tight heading into singles play. Audrey Grigore and Anastasiya Redkina would come up victorious with an 8-6 win to gave Whitman the lead after doubles play.

The Blues (3-3) came out on top in three of the first four singles matches to clinch the victory. Lori Sheng's 6-3, 7-6 (2) win over Sabrina Lieu gave Whitman the victory. Redkina and Hill's wins at the No. 3 and No. 2, respectively, put the Blues in the driver's seat as the first two finishers, giving Whitman a 4-1 lead to the point. Grigore fell in a tight match at the five with Sheng coming through with her match-clincher.

The Blues are back in action this weekend for the 2019 Whitman Winter Classic. The Classic kicks off Saturday, Feb. 23 with a single match against Cal Tech. Gustavus Adolphus and Linfield will also take part in the event with all matches played at the Bratton Indoor Tennis Center.
