CLEVELAND, Ohio - With its second loss in as many days, the No. 13 Whitman College men's tennis team fell 7-2 to No. 8 Gustavus Adolphus College in the consolation semifinals of the ITA Division III National Men's Team Indoor Championships on Saturday at the Cleveland Racquet Club.

The Blues (1-5) will play Sunday for seventh place in what is consistently billed as one of the nation's toughest team tournaments. First serve of doubles play is set for 8:30 a.m. ET (6:30 a.m. PT).
Despite the loss, Whitman had a shot of exiting doubles play with a one-point lead. After the pair of Daniel Foster and Ben Kirsh fell on the No. 1 court, Rajul Chikkalingaiah and Adam Rapoport evened the match with an 8-4 win over the GAC tandem of Michael O'Neil and Joel Hug. Andreas Mueller-Immergluck and Alex Hwang would be unable to grab the Blues the lead, falling at the two 8-5.

The Gusties would clinch the match early in singles play when results went their way via sweeps on the two, three and four courts. The most exciting matches came with the victory at hand for GAC, including a Whitman win at first singles. Kirsh responded with his doubles loss to Patrick Whaling, rallying from a set down to win 1-6, 6-3, 6-2. Chikkalingaiah nearly pulled off a win on the No. 6 court, but fell in a third-set tiebreaker to Indraneel Raut 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3).

The Blues will face the loser of No. 10 Carnegie Mellon and host and 18th-ranked Case Western Reserve in a match to be played at the Mayfield Village Racquet Club.
