N. 13 Men's Tennis Falls To No. 10 Carnegie Mellon To Close ITA Indoor Championships

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The No. 13 Whitman College men's tennis team dropped its third loss in as many days, falling to No. 10 Carnegie Mellon 5-0 in the seventh-place match of the ITA Men's National Indoor Championships on Sunday.

The Blues (1-6) were competitive in each of their doubles losses but were unable able to pull off victories on any of the three courts. The Whitman pair of Daniel Foster and Ben Kirsh dropped their one doubles match 8-4 to Daniel Levine and Chaz Downing for the first result. Carnegie Mellon ensured itself of the lead heading to singles play with a win on the No. 3 court, topping Whitman's duo of Rajul Chikkalingaiah and Adam Rapoport, 8-4.

The Tartans (4-2) sealed the win first with a victory at fourth singles then the match-clincher on the No. 2 court. Foster's 6-4, 6-1 loss to Downing at the two sent Whitman to its third straight defeat.

The remainder of the singles matches were left unfinished after Carnegie Mellon earned its fifth point. Kirsh and Levine were about set to start a deciding third set on the No. 1 court after Kirsh had taken the opening set and Levine responded with a second-set win.

The Blues will look to get back on track with an exhibition match this Tuesday, Feb. 26 against Spokane Falls CC. Start time at the Bratton Indoor Tennis Center is set for 4:30 p.m.
