Women's Tennis Rebounds For 6-3 Win Over Pacific

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitman women's tennis team rebounded nicely from yesterday's narrow defeat, sweeping doubles play en route to a 6-3 win over Pacific (Ore.) in Northwest Conference play Sunday at the Bratton Indoor Tennis Center.

Whitman (5-5, 2-1 NWC) gave up only two points in double play, ensuring itself of the lead heading to singles with Andrea Gu and Mary Hill's 8-0 win over the Boxer (2-3, 0-2 NWC) tandem of Chantelle Baclay and Marissa Hayashi. The pairs of Lori Sheng and Kattie Pak at the two, and Anastasiya Redkina and Audrey Grigore at the three both posted dominate 8-1 wins.

The Blues clinched the match early, winning on the No. 1 and No. 2 singles courts to make it 5-0 and nail down the win. Redkina and topped Baclay at the one 6-1, 6-4 with Sheng topping Sophia Nishimura 6-1, 6-2 at the two.

Pak added the sixth Whitman point with her 6-0, 6-3 win at the four over Adrienne Powell. Grigore played in the tightest match of the day, rallying from a set down but ultimately falling to Halie Chang 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 at third singles.

Whitman will have an extended break before traveling to Idaho to take on Division I Boise State. The Blues and Broncos play Saturday, March 30 at 11:00 a.m.
