Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Outdone By Illinois Wesleyan

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Isabel Regonini scored a team-high two goals, Nina Moore added a goal and scooped up a pair groundballs, but it did little to make up for a goal-scoring onslaught by Illinois Wesleyan who beat the Whitman College women's lacrosse team 22-6 on Tuesday.

The Titans (5-1) scored 11 goals in each half in handing the Blues (2-2) its worse defeat since 2017. Grianne Kelly scored a game-high five goals with four others posting hat tricks. Sam Bidlack added three assists to her three goals.

Anna Cadigan started in goal for the Blues, posting two saves while allowing eight goals. Piper Spencer saw time in the second half.

Whitman was very competitive early. Hannah Miller scored the game's first goal off a free position attempt, with Regonini regaining the lead in the same fashion 5:24 into the game.

IWU would go on a scoring run at that point, putting six shots past Cadigan including a pair each from Kelly and Landry Elliot. Goals from Moore and Ellie Teare made it an 8-4 game and Regonini's goal just on the other side of halftime cut the lead to 11-5, well within reach for the Blues.

The wheels would then fall off. Sage Ali scored her team's six and final goal with 8:08 to play but, by that time the Titans had built a 13-goal lead.

The Blues return home but will have a quick turnaround before traveling across state lines to play their Northwest Conference opener at Linfield. The game, designated as a home contest for the Blues having had to move locations due to unplayable field conditions, is set for Friday, March 16 at 5:00 p.m.
