Women's Lacrosse Races Past Whitworth

SPOKANE, Wash. - Sage Ali scored a game-high seven goals on only 10 shots, Isabel Regonini added four goals and three assists and the Whitman College women's lacrosse team opened Northwest Conference play with a resounding 21-3 win over Whitworth, Wednesday afternoon at the Whitworth Pine Bowl.

Whitman, whose anticipated conference opener against Pacific was postponed due to weather, early on made no mistake of its intentions. Ali scored three times inside of the first five minutes of the game and  the Blues (3-2, 1-0 NWC) built a 9-1 lead with less than eight minutes elapsed in the half.

Ali also posted a game-high nine defensive clears with Nina Moore adding eight more to go along with three goals. Olivia Engle scored three goals of her own and scooped up a game-high seven groundballs.

Trinity Frank scored the Pirates' second goal inside of two minutes remaining in the first half, but not before Whitman had unloaded for 16 first-half goals for a 14-goal lead at the break. Frank, along with goals from Jordan Cain and Hannah Meador provided the offense for the Bucs (0-6, 0-3 NWC).

Whitman added five more in the second half with the match having been all but decided.

Anna Cadigan started and played just under 35 minutes and tallied three saves for the win. Piper Spencer played the rest of the way, posting three saves of her own.

Laura Wells made four saves in net in a full 60 minutes of action for Whitworth.

Whitman is back in action this weekend for more Northwest Conference play. The Blues play at Puget Sound on Saturday, Mar. 30 at 1:00 p.m.
