NEWBERG, Ore. - The Whitman College women's tennis team had little trouble in its cross state visit today, cruising past George Fox 9-0 in a Northwest Conference contest on Friday.

Whitman (7-6, 4-1 NWC) fielded only six competitors with each playing in both doubles and singles. After sweeping doubles play, each player earned convincing sweeps in singles.

The Blues ensured themselves of the lead heading to singles play after wins on the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles courts. Mary Hill and Andrea Gu handed the Bruins tandem of Sophia Lawrence and Laney Search an 8-1 defeat at the one, with Lori Sheng and Lorin DeMuth winning 8-2 at the three. Anastasiya Redkina and Audrey Grigore gave Whitman the sweep with their 8-7 (7-5) tiebreak win on the No. 2 court.

The Blues made quick work of George Fox in singles play. Hill and Demuth won on the No. 2  and No. 6 courts, respectively, before Redkina clinched the win with a 6-1, 6-1 four singles win over Danielle Brown.

The Blues play their second of three consecutive Northwest Conference matches on Saturday with a visit to Pacific Lutheran. Start time versus the Lutes is set for 1:00 p.m.
