Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Comes Up Short In NWC Loss At Linfield

McMINNVILLE, Ore. - Sage Ali scored a team-high five goals, Isabel Regonini added four more but it wasn't enough as the Whitman College women's lacrosse team, playing a man down the entire match, fell 20-15 at Linfield in Northwest Conference action on Saturday.

Ali added three assists to her final stat total with Nina Moore contributing three goals and three assists of her own.

Bethany Shade led all scorers with six goals on 12 shots for the Wildcats (7-4, 6-1 NWC) with Gabriella Moe and Jenna Hessel both adding four goals.

Anna Cadigan and Piper Spencer shared time in goal for the Blues (5-4, 3-2 NWC) and posted a combined 11 saves. Kylee Duey and Epi Roldan-Rayo did the same for the Wildcats with 17 saves going on the stat sheet for them.

Ali opened the scoring with a goal inside of two minutes elapsed but Linfield countered with five straight goals, two coming from Moe. Ali scored her second with just under 23 minutes to play but four straight goals from Linfield put the Wildcats up 9-2 with 7:27 to play until halftime.

Whitman made a push just before the break. Ali scored her third with an assist from Ali Pope, then fed Regonini for two more right before the break to cut the lead to 9-6.

The teams battled back-and-forth for much of the second half with the Blues shaving the lead to as little as one goal inside of 10 minutes to play. Moore scored then assisted on another by Hannah Miller to cut the Wildcat lead to 15-14 with 9:18 to play.

Ali's free position goal with 7:36 to play kept the deficit to one goal, but that would be it for the Whitman offense. Shade scored twice down the stretch as Linfield pulled away for the five-goal win.

Whitman returns to action on Sunday with a visit to Pacific. Start time is set for 1:00 p.m.
