4/13/2019 11:06:00 PM

OLYMPIA, Wash. - The Whitman College women's tennis team won its second match in as many days, topping Pacific Lutheran 8-1 in Northwest Conference action on Saturday.

The Blues (8-6, 5-1 NWC) set the tone for the dominant win with a clean sweep in doubles play. The Whitman teams of Mary Hill and Andrea Gu at the one, and Lori Sheng and Lorin DeMuth at the three earned comfortable 8-1 and 8-4 wins, respectively. Anastasiya Redkina and Audrey Grigore would be pushed in their match but came through with an 8-7 (7-3) tiebreak win on the No. 2 court over the PLU pair of Bayley Gochanour and Taylor Stokes.

Singles play proved to more no more than a formality with PLU earning their lone point on the No. 5 court. Audrey Grigore rallied from a set down but ultimately fell in three sets 7-5, 2-6, 10-8.

Hill and Sheng posted the most dominant wins. On the No. 2 court, Hill topped Kristi Floyd 6-1, 6-0 with Sheng winning by the same score in her four singles win over Lauren Kearney.

The Blues conclude their three-day, three-match Northwest Conference trip with a visit to Puget Sound on Sunday. Start time is set for 10:00 a.m.
