4/14/2019 2:44:00 PM

TACOMA, Wash. - Andrea Gu won at both doubles and singles, the latter giving her career win No. 100, and the Whitman College women's tennis team took down the University of Puget Sound 7-2 in Northwest Conference on Sunday

The win closes a three-day, three-match league road swing with the Blues coming out victorious each time out. Whitman now moves to 9-6 overall and 6-1 in conference with the Loggers now at 8-6 and 5-3 in league play.

Today's victory would not come easy as the Blues trailed by a point after doubles play. Whitman looked to be in trouble after losses on both the No. 3 then the No. 2 courts. The top flight team of Mary Hill and Andrea Gu kept the Blues in the match, closing doubles play with an 8-2 win over the Logger tandem of Lisa Owen and Nicki Bouche.

Whitman dominated singles play. The first three finishes came in as sweeps from Anastasiya Redkina, Lori Sheng and Audrey Grigore. Gu then held on for a 6-1, 0-6, 6-0 match-clinching win on the No. 1 court, and giving herself the milestone win.

Next up for the Blues is Senior Day and their regular season finale on Saturday, Apr. 20. Start time at the Whitman Outdoor Tennis Courts is set for 12:00 p.m.
