NEWBERG, Ore. - The Whitman College men's tennis pair of
Ben Kirsh and
Daniel Foster played their way to the top of the ITA ladder, rallying to win the doubles title 3-6, 6-3, 16-14 at the ITA Fall Northwest Regional Championships on Monday afternoon.
Played in a three-set format for the championship, the duo dropped the opening set, rallied for a set two win then claimed the title with a thrilling victory in the decisive third set.
The title was the second in three years for the Blues with
Zach Hewlin and
Robert Carter winning in 2017.
Kirsh nearly claimed his second title of the tournament but fell in the singles championship match in three sets to Will Leach who repeated the feat from a season ago. Kirsh had advanced to the final after beating George Fox's Luke Lemaitre 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.
The tournament concludes the fall schedule for the Blues who return to action this spring.
