Women's Tennis Falls At Seattle U

Box Score EDGEWOOD, Wash. - The Whitman College women's tennis team took on Division I Seattle University today, but came up short in a 6-1 loss to the Redhawks on Saturday afternoon at the Jupiter Tennis Courts.

Andei Fukushige notched the lone win for the Blues. In the final match of the day, she took down Hannah Gianan in straight sets, 7-6 (5), 6-3 on the No. 1 court.

The Redhawks took care of the Blues in doubles play, winning on the No. 1 and No. 3 courts to clinch the doubles point. The No. 2 court was the closest the Blues got to a win as Angel Le and Irene Tsai fell to Kyra Jung and Michelle Bader, 6-4. Fukushige and Andea Gu fell at the one with Kattie Pak and Jennifer Wong losing 6-3 at the three.

The match was won with Seattle's win on the No. 3 singles court. Jillian Rassmusen took down Camilla Tarpy-Shwed in straight sets 6-0, 6-4.

Despite the loss, two of Whitman's singles defeats went the distance. Gu was up a set on the No. 2 court but fell to Jung 1-6, 6-3, 10-8 and Tsai lost to Bader at the six 1-6, 6-3, 10-4.

Whitman closes out its weekend road trip at Puget Sound tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.
