Box Score WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitman College women's tennis team served up the Northwest Conference season in style, taking down Whitworth 8-1 in the team's league opener on Saturday at the Bratton Indoor Tennis Center.

The Blues (8-2) won two of the three doubles matches to ensure themselves of the lead heading to singles play. Andrea Gu and Andei Fukushige won 8-1 at the one over the Pirate pair of Erica Lee and Avery Liening. The second win came at third doubles when Irene Tsai and Hannah Worden took down Hannah Plank and Kyndal Locati.

The Blues won every singles match but it took a three-set win by Anastasiya Redkina at the four to clinch the win. Plank rallied from a set down but Redkina ultimately prevailed with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 victory.

Fukushige and Gu swept Lee and Liening at the one and two, respectively, to set up Redkina for the match clincher.

Angel Le had her work cut out for her on the No. 3 court with the match already at hand. She too saw her opponent rally from a set down but Le was up for the challenge and walked away with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 win.

The Blues are back in action when they travel to Linfield next Saturday, March 14th. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m.
