Christina Boxberger drilled a match-high 15 kills while committing only two errors,
Sydney London chipped in nine more to go along with a match-best six blocks and the Whitman College women's volleyball team topped first-place George Fox in stunning fashion with a 25-16, 25-23, 25-15 sweep on Friday night in Northwest Conference action at the Sherwood Center.
Boxberger also added 10 digs for a double double with Kenzie Martinez delivering an excellent performance with her 12-kill, 10-dig double double.
Bailey LeBreton led the Bruins (11-9, 8-5 MWC) with 12 kills and Piper Harrop added a match-high 14 digs.
Whitman (8-12, 6-7 NWC) took it to George Fox in the opening set, leading from start to finish en route to the set one victory. LeBreton kept the Bruins in the set early but Whitman spread the wealth as Boxberger, London and Brooke Valentine kills helped their team to an early 10-4 lead. Whitman went up by as many as 10 points late before closing George Fox out on a Martinez kill.
Set two started off more evenly but it were still the Blues who had the early advantage and propelled themselves to a two-set lead. A pair of Boxberger kills put Whitman up 13-8 but the momentum would not last for much longer. George Fox ran off five straight points highlighted by a pair of kills from Kassandra Stanton. The Bruins later took a three-point lead late in the set but a Whitman rally would ensue. Martinez sparked a 4-0 run with a pair of kills to lift her team to a thrilling set two win and a two-set lead in the match.
Whitman closed out the match with a dominant set-three win. The Blues used a pair of early 3-0 runs to take a 12-8 lead and never took their foot off the gas. Later, Boxberger kick-started a 7-1 run with a kill that put the set and match to bed.
The Blues play their home finale on Saturday and will honor their seniors in a special pregame ceremony. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
