Women's Tennis Takes Down Pacific

FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Eyeing a potential No. 1 seed in next weekend's Northwest Conference Tournament, the Whitman College women's tennis team took care of business with a 7-2 win at Pacific on Friday afternoon.

Camilla Tarpey-Schwed was dominant on the day, dropping only one game in singles after winning at love at third doubles to give the Blues their first point. After she won with Grace Carter, Angel Le and Arianna Castellanos fell at first singles as the Boxers evened the match.

Ilina Jha and Irene Tsai assured Whitman of the lead with their win at the two. They topped the Boxer pair of Grace Truong and Valentina Casab-Kleskova 8-2 to give the Blues a 2-1 lead.

Tarpey-Schwed opened singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Casab-Kleskova at the three, then Jha delivered an impressive 6-3, 6-4 win over regionally-ranked Sydnie Binder on the No. 2 court. The Blues clinched the match at the five when Mae Thorp took down Jessica Eligio 6-0, 6-2.

The Blues close the regular and conference season on Saturday at Willamette. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m.
