Blues Advance In Singles And Doubles At ITAs

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The ITA Fall Northwest Regional Championships continued on Saturday with main draw action in both singles and doubles. The tournament is being held at both the Whitman Outdoor Tennis Courts and the Bratton Indoor Tennis Center.

A Draw Singles
Top seeded Angel Le cruised through the first two matches of the A draw. She took down Natalie Budge (Whitworth) 6-1, 6-0 to open the tournament then beat Susanna Anand of Lewis & Clark 6-0, 6-1.

Camilla Tarpey-Schwed was equally as dominant in dispatching both Richelle Suzuki (Willamette) and Seraphina Vossen (Lewis &Clark). She blanked Suzuki before topping Vossen 6-0, 6-2.

First year Teleya Blunt and sophomore Arianna Castellanos also won via sweeps and will now square off against each other in Sunday morning's quarterfinal. Also advancing with two straight-set wins was Illina Jha.

B Draw Singles
Newcomer Sascha Wells along with Piper Rylander and Grace Carter all won to advance to Sunday's quarterfinals. Wells and Carter were dominant with straight-set wins in both of their matches. Wells, seeded No. 1 in the B draw, took down Hayley Kreps (Lewis & Clark) 6-0, 6-1 then topped Whitworth's Olivia Corbett by the same score.

Rylander had to work for her quarterfinal appearance. She swept her opening round match but needed three sets (6-0, 5-7, 6-3) to beat Whitworth's Elizabeth Hopkins.

Doubles
Opening day of the doubles draw saw a trio of Whitman teams advance to Sunday morning's quarterfinal round. Tarpey-Schwed and Jha were dominant in their two wins, beating teams from George Fox and Lewis & Clark. Mock and Blunt won at love to open the tournament then topped Whitworth 8-5. 

Finally, as expected, defending champions Arianna Castellanos and Angel Le cruised through their first round matchup.
