Whitman Players Advance To Singles and Doubles Title Matches at ITA's

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The ITA Fall Northwest Regional Championships continued on Sunday with main draw action in both singles and doubles. Heading into championship day on Monday, the Whitman College women's tennis team will look for titles in both the A and B singles draws as well as a doubles title.

The tournament is being held at both the Whitman Outdoor Tennis Courts and the Bratton Indoor Tennis Center.

A Draw Singles
Sunday featured a trio of Whitman players advancing to the semifinals. On one side, top-seeded Angel Le took down Taryn Fujimori, then squared off with teammate Camilla Tarpey-Schwed who had topped N0. 3 seed Sydnie Binder (Pacific). Tarpey-Schwed then upset her top-seeded teammate and will now square off against No. 2 seed Cassidy Binder (Pacific) for the title.

B Draw Singles
Newcomer Sascha Wells along with Grace Carter advanced to the semifinals where they both beat their opponents and will face each other for the title on Monday. Wells cruised past Stephanie Ramirez Barretto 6-3, 6-1 with Carter's opponent, Lisa Ponti (Linfield), retiring due to injury in set three. Carter had rallied from a set down.

Doubles
Monday's championship match will feature the top two seeds in the tournament. Top-seeded Arianna Castellanos and Le will square off against Pacific's Cassidy and Sydnie Binder. The Binder tandem took down Whitman's Illina Jha and Tarpey-Schwed with Le and Castellano beating teammates Teleya Blunt and Erica Mock.
