WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitman College women's soccer team more than doubled up George Fox in shots, but nevertheless came up short in a 1-0 loss to the Bruins on Saturday afternoon at Hayner Field.
Said coach Michelle Voiland of her team's performance, "that was a hard fought match. We played very well and just could not convert our numerous opportunities. Tomorrow we get after it again."
The loss broke a five-game unbeaten streak for the Blues (5-3-3, 4-2-1 NWC) who outshot the Bruins 15-7. Whitman forced Bruin keeper Emily Robey to make six saves to keep a clean sheet. Hannah Hagler recorded three saves for the Blues.
The lone goal came in the 59th minute. Isabella Hector found Willa Evans who finished low and inside the far post past Hagler.
Whitman was unlucky not to find the back of the net, drawing nine corner kicks but unable to put home a goal.
The Blues are back at it on Sunday against Lewis & Clark. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
