WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Centerback
Kiki Glorioso scored a pair of goals helping the Whitman College women's soccer team return to its winning ways with a 3-1 win over Lewis & Clark on Sunday afternoon at Hayner Field.
"That was a fantastic win," said coach
Michelle Voiland. "I'm so proud of the team for showing resilience and bouncing back from Saturday. We took control of the game right away and were able to covert our chances. Three awesome goals and another step forward.
The Blues got on the board first with a goal in the 18th minute. Virginia Hunt beat her defender down the left flank and served a ball to the head of Glorioso out of the back. Glorioso redirected the ball over Sophia Young's outstretched hand and into the far post.
Whitman put the game away with two goals midway through the second half and only five minutes apart from each other. Glorioso's second goal came in the 61st minute off an assist from Molly Beaulieu. Off a corner kick, Beaulieu knocked the ball back across the goal which Glorioso got her foot on and poked into the back of the net
Whitman's final goal came off a brilliant strike from Hunt. Hunt collected an equally stellar through ball played by Leah Barnes through the teeth of the Pio defense and ripped a shot into the goal from just outside the penalty area.
A Megan Yanagi goal in the 87th put the Pioneers on the board, but it proved to be elementary.
Hannah Hagler posted six saves on the afternoon for the Blues with Young recording five.
The Blues continue their homestand next weekend with matches against Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran.
