Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

No. 22 Women's Basketball Too Much For Sewanee

SEWANEE, Texas - Avery Neal dropped a career-high 12 points off the bench to lead four Blues in double figures and the No. 22 Whitman College women's basketball team to a dominant 88-57 win at Sewanee on Sunday at Juhan Gymnasium.

Korin Baker scored a team-high 16 points and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds for the Blues who outscored the Tigers by 20 points in the fourth quarter to run away with the win.

Olivia Falvey scored a game-high 19 points and Cydney Wright added 17 more for Sewanee who were outdone by a 18-point points off turnover ratio in favor of the Blues.

Whitman (8-1) got off to a great start to open the game. Baker had a pair of buckets in the first five minutes sandwiched around a Christiane Carlisle three pointer, putting her team up 12-4 with 4:36 to play. Carlisle later got to the hoop for a score and Neal knocked down a three ball to give Whitman a nine-point lead at the end of the opening quarter.

The game opened up in the second 10 minutes but finished with the Blues taking a double digit lead into halftime. Back-to-back buckets from Lindsay Drango extended the lead to 13 points with 7:35 to play, but a bucket from Wright and a three pointer from Lilly Phillips brought the lead back down to 10 points.

The three pointers began to fall on the regular for both squads. Back-to-back triples from Carlisle made it a 16-point game, but Phillips countered with her second three pointer. Holly Morgan pushed the Blues' lead to 14 points with her three ball, but the Tigers hit their shots from the charity stripe before halftime to cut the deficit to a manageable 10 points.

Both teams played a competitive third quarter, but Whitman unloaded on both sides of the ball in the final quarter. The Blues opened the period on a 12-0 run and extended to a 69-46 lead with 6:41 to play. Neal and Carly Martin later knocked down back-to-back three pointers and the rout was on.

The Blues close the trip at the Music City Classic in Gallatin, Tenn. against Wartburg and Christopher Newport.
