Women's Tennis Falls At Eastern Washington

CHENEY, Wash. - The Whitman College women's tennis team played its first of back-to-back matches this weekend, falling 7-0 at Eastern Washington University on Saturday at Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse.

"This was a great match, doubles was a big improvement and Angel and Ari led at the top and we fought really well at every spot today," said coach John Hein. "It's a match we'll learn and gain confidence from starting conference play at home tomorrow."

The Blues were competitive in doubles but nevertheless fell in all three matches as the Eagles earned the doubles point. The star-studded pair of Angel Le and Arianna Castellanos fell 6-4 to Isabella Foshee and Leandra Nizetic at first doubles. The No. 2 court saw an equally tough match as the Whitman pair of Jin Yu and Teleya Blunt came up short by the same score.

EWU won all six singles matches but not without some opposition from the Blues. Le went up with a dominant win in set one, but ultimately fell after needing to withdraw in set three. Castellanos had a strong performance at second singles in falling to Foshee 7-5, 6-4.

The Blues now serve up Northwest Conference play with a quick turnaround. Whitman will host Whitworth on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
