Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

No. 22 Women's Basketball Upended At Willamette

SALEM, Ore. - In a battle of elite Northwest Conference teams, the No. 22 Whitman College women's basketball team went down to the wire against Willamette but came up short to the Bearcats 67-62 on Friday night at Cone Field House.

Korin Baker scored a team-high 17 points for the Blues (14-4, 6-3 NWC) while grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds. Lindsay Drango added 15 points and seven boards with Christiane Carlisle chipping in nine points and three steals.

Carolyn Ho was lights out for the Bearcats (11-7, 8-1 NWC) in hitting 9-11 from the floor for a game-high 21 points.

The teams matched wits down to the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Baker put the Blues ahead 58-56 with 3:23 to play on her made basket, but Ho answered with the first of three straight buckets to tie the game.

Ho later put her team ahead by one point after completing a three-point play to make it a 61-60 game with 1:20 to play. Drango regained the lead for Whitman which turned out to be its last as Ho again hit from the floor to recapture a lead the Bearcats did not relinquish.

Despite shooting only 39% from the field compared to Willamette's 53%, Whitman remained in the hunt due to a plus-7 advantage on the offensive glass. The Bearcats' hot shooting, which included 43% from three, ultimately proved to be the difference.

Whitman closes the weekend on Saturday, Jan. 27 at Pacific. Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
