Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

No. 20 Women's Basketball Too Much For Lewis & Clark

PORTLAND, Ore. - Korin Baker led all scorers with 21 points, Lindsey Drango added a double double with 20 points and 10 rebounds and the No. 20 Whitman College women's basketball team dominated Lewis & Clark 86-41 in Northwest Conference action on Saturday night.

The win was Whitman's biggest of the season and also saw Carly Martin add 17 points and Baker add eight rebounds. The Blues also saw excellent contributions off the bench which outscored its Pio counterpart 21-7. Jordan Leith scored eight points as six bench players registered points.

Jamison Richards led Lewis & Clark with 18 points and Lauren Frederickson added 11 points and five rebounds. The Pios were done in by 21 turnovers which the Blues cashed in for 28 points.

The Pios (1-10, 0-4 NWC) hung in with the Blues (11-2, 3-1 NWC) for a stretch of the opening quarter, but it was still Whitman who took control early. The Blues opened the contest scoring 10 of the game's first 12 points including a steal and a fastbreak layup from Martin. Richards cut into the lead with a three pointer, but a triple from Christiane Carlisle and two buckets down the stretch from Baker made it a double-digit lead by the end of the quarter.

The Pios kept the game within striking distance and played the Blues nearly even in the second quarter. Martin opened with a three pointer for the Blues but her team only managed 11 points in the period. The Pios trailed by 13 but Richards and Madelyn Sanchez both hit three pointers to bring the deficit to single digits. Whitman hit a pair of shots down the stretch to push the lead back up to double digits by halftime.

Whitman blew the game open with dominant third and fourth quarters. The Blues outscored the Pios by 19 in the third quarter and 15 in the fourth to win going away. Drango opened the third quarter with a three pointer and Martin added two more to help their team to the big quarter. The Blues opened the fourth quarter on a 10-0 run and never looked back.

With only one game on the schedule this weekend, Whitman will prepare for road games next weekend at Linfield and George Fox.
