Larson's Late Goal Lifts Blues Past Pioneers

PORTLAND, Ore. - With mere seconds on the clock, Gracia Larson broke a goalless stalemate for her first goal of the season and the Whitman College women's soccer team escaped Lewis & Clark with a 1-0 win over the Pioneers in Northwest Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

"What a fantastic win today," said Whitman coach Michelle Voiland. "The team played really well against a very physical Lewis and Clark team. This team never gave up or settled. They kept the pressure on until the end. It was so great to get that winner off a corner. Such an incredible, gritty and determined performance."

Despite only a single goal to show for it, both teams had ample scoring opportunities with a combined 26 shots. Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky and Seanee Still combined for the shutout in goal, each playing a half and combining for three saves.

Whitman (10-5-2, 7-4-2 NWC) earned a corner kick in the final minute of play which was taken by Virginia Hunt. Kiki Glorioso was able to settle the service inside the box allowing Larson to come on and finish just inside the near post with only seven seconds remaining on the game clock.

The Blues will look to keep it rolling when they visit Willamette on Sunday for their road finale. Kickoff is set for 1:45 p.m.
