The Whitman College men's tennis team faced both the University of Montana and Lewis-Clark State College in split squad action, coming up short to both on Saturday.
Montana 7 Whitman 0
MISSOULA, Mont. - The Blues traveled to face their Division I foe and fell to the Grizzlies 7-0 in a match held at the Peak Racquet Club.
The Grizzlies made quick work of the Blues with wins on the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles courts to earn the doubles point. Braeden Thomas and Diego Guzman put up a solid fight at the three, however, but still came up short 6-3 to the Montana pair of Tom Bittner and Chris Zhang.
Montana won all singles matches in straight sets but the Blues delivered some solid performances.
LCSC 8 Whitman 1
WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Blues took on the Warriors for the second time this season and came up short again in falling 8-1 to LCSC at the Bratton Indoor Tennis Center.
LCSC won second and third doubles handily, but the battle to take the lead heading into singles was a good one on the No. 1 court. Ultimately it was the Warriors who claimed the victory as Lucas Huang and Jackson Wurzer fell to Itaru Kikuchi and Austin Swing, 8-7 (3).
The Warriors notched the win after victories on the No. 3 and No. 4 courts as Chris O'Farrill fell at the three and Luca Viarengo lost at the four.
Whitman's lone win came at the two when Alejandro Raffo rallied from a set down to top swing 1-6, 6-2, 6-2.
The Blues are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 17 when they host Colorado College.
