Box Score REDLANDS, Calif. - The No. 40 Whitman College women's tennis team ran up against one of the top teams in the nation but came up short in a 9-0 loss to No. 6 Amherst College on Sunday afternoon at the Jim Verdieck Tennis Courts.

The match saw some competitive doubles action despite all three results going to the Mammoths. The Whitman pairs of Arianna Castellanos and Teleya Blunt, and Ilina Jha and Sascha Wells both lost 8-3 on the No. 1 and No. 3 courts, respectively. The Blues (9-6) eyed a victory at the two but Jin Yu and Grace Carter fell to Amy Cui and Katie Hart, 8-6.

Amherst cruised through singles play and won each match in straight sets. Erica Mock had a shot at stealing her opening set on the No. 5 court, but still suffered in a 7-5, 6-1 loss to Greta Stechschulte.

Whitman concludes its Southern California trip on Monday, March 18 against Williams College. Start time is set for 9:00 a.m.
